World Urban Forum (WUF12)

Representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, business people, community leaders, urban planners and civil society representatives will be among the thousands of people are expected to attend WUF12.

The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since.

Representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, business people, community leaders, urban planners and civil society representatives will be among the thousands of people are expected to attend WUF12 which is co-organised by The Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

In this edition of the event, the Covenant of Mayors - Europe will be present in several sessions:

  • Local Solutions, Global Impact The Role of Small and Medium Cities in Accelerating Climate Action - co-organised by the Covenant of Mayors - Europe, with Gloabl Covenant of Mayors and United Cities and Local Governments, (see more information here)
  • Unlocking the potential of local data to foster sustainable and livable cities - the Covenant of Mayors - Europe participates with a panelist of Bonn’s Deputy Mayor, representing CoM EU, in this session organised by OECD and the European Commission Joint Research centre
  • Monitoring urban fabric for data-driven planning and decision-making - the Covenant of Mayors - Europe participates with a panelist in this session organised by Charles University, OECD, and The Alan Turing Institute
