Noise is often a big source of complaints from citizens in urban areas. Cities and towns can use the opportunity to renew their roads with quiet roads, to the benefit of the health of the citizens and the quality of life of the city.
The European Commission in the Zero Pollution Action Plan called for a 30% reduction in the number of people chronically disturbed by transport noise. In the Report to the European Parliament and the Council, the Commission then explained that this will be possible by, inter alia, ‘the introduction of quiet surfaces whenever a busy road is repaved, making use of the Green Public Procurement guidelines’.
The Commission is therefore promoting a webinar to explain to local authorities, in simple and practical terms, what the possibilities are to use low noise road surfaces, thanks to a number of past EU funded projects and solutions engineered.
