Current rules created a governance mechanism to help the EU and Member States meet their climate and energy objectives through strategic planning, reporting, and monitoring. This initiative aims to keep Europe on track to meet its climate goals, while mainstreaming, strengthening and modernising those rules and putting forward an enabling framework for the decade ahead securing Europe’s competitiveness and sustainability.

The European Commission launched the call for applications for the 2028 European Green Capital (EGC) and European Green Leaf (EGL) Awards. These prestigious titles recognise and reward European cities that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability, environmental innovation and improving the quality of life for their residents.

Digital tools are reshaping how cities plan and manage urban environments. The UrbanAIR project is developing advanced digital twin services to help local authorities simulate and assess climate risks such as extreme heat and air pollution. Integrated into the Destination Earth initiative, these tools will enable cities to test future scenarios and support more informed, climate-resilient urban planning.

The fourth Call for Proposals under the European Urban Initiative – Innovative Actions (EUI-IA) is out, with an indicative ERDF budget of EUR 60 million (subject to budget availability).
