Innovating Smart Cities Resilience through Research and Best Practices

The CERIS Event - ''Innovating Smart Cities Resilience through Research and Best Practicies'' addresses the pressing need to strengthen the resilience of urban centres against complex challenges.

This event, aims to bring together practitioners, local authorities, policymakers and researchers to discuss latest insights and lessons learned from ongoing EU-funded projects related to the resilience of Smart Cities infrastructure. This event strives to support the exploitation of recent research findings by informing policymakers and other stakeholders, and to share best practices and future outlooks with ongoing efforts in this domain.

This event will look at how research contributes to bolstering security, technology, and urban planning in improving the resilience of Smart Cities. It will discuss how to integrate security by design principles into spatial development, while fostering collaborative efforts across sectors, for instance by empowering communities as active stakeholders in resilience-building endeavours. Experts from relevant sectors under the Critical Entities Resilience Directive will give their views on research needs, capability gaps, policy priorities and best practices.

Furthermore, the event will be an occasion to facilitate networking and the exchange of knowledge between policymakers, practitioners, researchers & academia, industry, and civil society. By highlighting security gaps and needs, EU policy priorities, and future scenarios, the event continues the work of CERIS in fostering a collective vision for European resilience.

The CERIS Community itself reflects the priorities of the ‘Civil Security for Society’ cluster of Horizon Europe. These priorities are: Border Management, Fighting Crime and Terrorism, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Disaster Resilient Societies, and Strengthening Security Research and Innovation.
