Vanadzor

The effect of the proposed measures is based on the following assumptions: average capacity of the incandescent lamps used for indoor lighting is 75W, the number of annual working days of the system is 250 days, the average daily duration of operation of one lamp is 3 hours, the capacity of newly LED lamps replacing the old system 15W, by 2024, about 65% of incandescent lamps in the indoor lighting systems of community buildings (240 kW), have been replaced with new LED systems. From 2024 to 2026 it is envisaged to replace about 1730 incandescent lamps with a total installed capacity of about 130kW that are still in operation in the community-owned buildings with new LED systems.

The following activities are envisaged in 10 kindergartens, 5 cultural institution and 3 sports schools: - Installation of double-glazed windows with metal-plastic or aluminum (with a thermal break core) PVC frames. Replacement of external doors; - Thermal insulation of the attic floor with expanded perlite bags (d=150 mm), - Thermal insulation of external walls with 50-100 mm expanded polystyrene (EPS) / extruded polystyrene (XPS) thermal insulation boards; - Replacement of the heating system with natural gas condensing boilers, modernization of the heat supply network (only in the case of structures with gas supply).

Despite the fact that solar irradiation rate in Vanadzor is not as high as in other regions of RA, energy supply of community-owned structures via renewable (solar) technologies is important to ensure reliability of power supply and decarbonization. In order to partially satisfy the electricity demand of the municipality and fully satisfy the electricity demand of 20 community-owned structures, within the framework of this measure it is planned to install an 80 kW peak capacity PV system for the city hall, 5 kW peak capacity individual PV systems for 10 educational institutions and cultural structures, and 10 kW peak capacity PV systems for 5 sports schools.

Inspection of roofs of community buildings and MABs, inventory of roofs vulnerable to heavy rainfall, hail and strong winds, implementation of preventive measures such as repair of vulnerable roofs, replacement of roofing (e.g. with galvanized sheet metal), reinforcement of supporting structures/bearing structures, replacement of worn-out timber, modernization of the drainage system.

Within the framework of this measure, it is planned that by 2026 the Vanadzor street lighting system will be completely equipped with LED lamps, which will replace the high-pressure sodium lamps still in operation. It is estimated that the average individual power of the new LED lamps installed during the system modernization is 80 W.

This activity envisages wide-spread use of renewable energy sources to increase the independence and reliability of energy supply of community-owned structures and ensuring energy security of the structures in the extreme weather events.

Improvement of the municipal solid waste management system in accordance with the "Strategic Plan for Solid Waste Management of the City of Vanadzor 2023-2027" approved in 2023, in particular: development of a garbage collection system strategy, establishment of garbage recycling plants, installation of additional garbage bins, acquisition of waste collection equipment, acquisition of new specialized equipment, etc.

Establishment of community green zones or restoration, expansion, provision of water supply and maintenance of existing zones and recreational areas, parks and gardens.
