EU Covenant of Mayors Coordinators commit to supporting signatories within their geographical scope, whether by promoting the Covenant of Mayors initiative, providing technical and/or financial support to develop and implement Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans, or offering networking activities involving the Covenant signatories.
Why Join
The EU Covenant of Mayors enables regional and sub-regional governments, national ministries and national agencies to effectively engage and empower local authorities in climate action, aligning with European objectives.
Join the EU Covenant of Mayors as Coordinator to:
1. Integrate your region’s municipalities into the world largest movement of local authorities acting on climate change, showcasing the collective impact of local action.
2. Use a common language that is both tangible and straightforward to engage a large amount of municipalities.
3. Equip them to plan, implement and monitor robust and holistic climate strategies with a reference methodology and ready-made guidance.
4. Connect them to a vast and diverse community of like-minded stakeholders across Europe and the world to exchange experience and knowledge.
5. Structure your region’s climate planning with an existing framework.
6. Use this framework to streamline strategies across government levels.
7. Set up funding and technical assistance programmes that strengthen local action.
8. Bring visibility to your region’s ambition, actions and impact in the international sphere.
9. Directly engage in discussion with EU institutions and help shape European climate and energy policy.
10. Connect with other regional and national coordinators across Europe to share experiences, best practices and solutions to common challenges.
Eligibility
EU Covenant of Mayors Coordinators are national, regional and sub-regional public authorities that officially commit to providing strategic guidance and support to Covenant signatories within their geographical scope.
There are two types of Coordinators for different public authorities:
- The Covenant National Coordinator role: reserved to national ministries and national energy agencies only.
- The Covenant Territorial Coordinator role: reserved to regions, provinces and counties only. This includes:
- Portuguese Comunidades Intermunicipais and Areas Metropolitanas, being established by law as administrative regions.
- Italian Metropolitan Cities, being established by law and substituting, de facto, the old province structure.
Should you require further clarifications, please contact the Covenant Coordinators Helpdesk at coordinators@eumayors.eu.
