On 26 May 2026, the Province of Liège welcomed more than seventy local elected representatives and municipal officials at meeting dedicated to the climate transition. The highlight of the evening was the renewal of their commitment to the EU Covenant of Mayors.

Alongside their coordinator POLLEC-Politique Locale Énergie Climat, the municipalities confirmed their commitment to continue the actions undertaken in the fields of climate and energy - to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the resilience of their territories to the impacts of climate change and address energy poverty.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Walloon Air and Climate Agency (AWAC) to present its Climate Portal, a new tool offering municipalities access to data and maps to help steer local climate, air quality and energy policies.

“With this event, the Province of Liège, through its Sustainable Development department, reaffirms its role as a partner to municipalities in the transition towards a territory that is more resilient to climate change,” said the Provincial Deputy responsible for the portfolio.

Bruno Mola from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action in charge of the EU Covenant of Mayors congratulated the Province of Liège on its renewed commitment to climate action and its continued support to municipalities.

“At the European level we recognise than when there is commitment by the provincial and regional authorities to support municipalities, we make better progress”, said Bruno Mola.
