Montemor-o-Novo is tackling extreme heat with Verde Bairro
In the heart of Alentejo, Montemor-o-Novo is tackling the challenges of extreme heat through the Verde Bairro initiative. Led by the local association Marca - ADL, this project is transforming the city’s historic centre by reimagining public spaces and boosting community engagement.
Verde Bairro empowers residents to create sustainable mini-gardens using native plants in shared urban areas. This not only strengthens communities but also improves the health and well-being of the population, enhances the city’s environmental quality, and raises awareness by involving the diverse residents of the area.
