As part of this engagement action, four online webinars will be organised between May and June 2026, each lasting approximately one hour. Held in collaboration with partner projects and initiatives including the Citizen Energy Advisory Hub, the ISLET project, ManagEnergy, and Citizen-led Renovation, the series is designed to walk local authorities through the full development of energy communities: understanding what energy communities are, why they matter, how to engage citizens, how to tackle specific contexts such as islands, and how to set up and manage a community in practice. Sessions will be illustrated through concrete case studies drawn from real experiences across Europe.

European islands face unique energy challenges, such as geographic isolation, high dependence on fossil fuel imports, and fragile grids. Yet they are also pioneering some of the most innovative renewable energy community models on the continent. This session will shine a spotlight on island experiences, exploring how local communities in islands are developing homegrown energy solutions, and what lessons can be drawn from their approach.
