In the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC), Eurocities is co-organizing an in-person seminar in Brussels titled “Climate Resilience by 2050: The Catalytic Role of European Cities in Adaptation.” This event, co-hosted by Eurocities and CIDOB’s Global Cities Programme, with support from Barcelona City Council, will be held by the Brussels Capital Region.

With 2023 recorded as the warmest year in history, the need for urgent climate adaptation has never been clearer. Although much attention is given to mitigation, cities must now focus on enhancing adaptation strategies to cope with extreme weather challenges. Given that 75% of Europe’s population resides in urban areas, cities are central to building climate resilience.

This seminar will bring together policymakers, experts, and city leaders to discuss both the challenges and opportunities related to climate adaptation in European cities. It will serve as a platform for dialogue on key issues such as multilevel governance, public-private partnerships, and the capacity-building initiatives needed to boost local climate resilience.

Participants will also explore the findings of the 2024 Eurocities Pulse Mayors Survey, which presents city leaders' perspectives on adaptation, and learn directly from cities implementing innovative climate policies. Registration for the event is now open!
